Junior Academy Day One – Online classes

August 7 @ 10:00 - 11:30

Today we welcome all pianists to the Junior Academy to take part in the first group class workshop with their course leader. This is a wonderful opportunity to get to know the other young pianists and to meet their teacher. Some participants may be taking the full course online, whilst others will be joining us in Manchester on the 13th August for the onsite course.  All classes will be delivered on Zoom and recorded.

Junior Academy Day Two- Online classes and lessons

August 8 @ 10:00 - 11:30

Another opportunity for each course to meet and enjoy a workshop with their course leader. For those on the Young artist course this will be an opportunity to work with Noriko Ogawa who will be leading this performance based class. Everyone will also receive one of their individual piano lessons online over these 2 days, plus  lessons from any additional courses booked such as sightreading, theory, aural etc. All classes will be delivered on Zoom and recorded.

Junior Academy – Online resources

August 10 - August 12

Daily resources will be sent to all participants. These will include technical warmup exercises, practise advice and recordings to help develop listening skills. For pianists who are taking the full online course, individual piano lessons and lessons on extra courses may be timetabled.

Junior Academy Registration

August 13 @ 12:00 - 13:30
Oglesby Atrium

Participants arrive to Chetham's school of music in Manchester to register for the Junior Academy. A team of staff and house parents will help to show everyone the school and take them to the accommodation. Parents are welcome to attend registration. If you are unable to arrive in time for the registration please email to confirm your expected arrival time. Lunch will be served at 1.30pm for all resident participants. Group class workshops

August 13 @ 14:30 - 16:00

The Junior Academy at Chetham's begins with everyone joining together in their group classes. These will be divided into the 4 main course options: Elementary - with Ruth Aldred Intermediate - with Sarah Murphy Advanced - with Gemma Beeson Young artists - with Murray McLachlan Throughout the course there will be daily classes to further enhance  individual timetables. All classes will be live-streamed so that participants on the Online course can participate.

Practise or individual lessons

August 13 @ 16:30 - 18:30

A chance to enjoy some time to practise in one of the many piano rooms in the school's  state-of-the-art facilities.  If extra courses or lessons have been booked  individual lessons may be timetabled now as well.

Opening recital

August 13 @ 19:30 - 20:30

The opening recital in the glorious Stoller Hall will feature some of the outstanding piano pupils from Chethams school of music, in a varied and exciting programme. Chetham’s is the largest specialist music school in the UK.  Chetham’s students learn and play in a state-of-the-art New School building, opened in 2012 to provide acoustically designed practice rooms, performance spaces and rehearsal rooms. Free to all participants and live-streamed.

Social time

A chance for everyone to unwind at the end of the first day. Non residents leave for the day and the residents can choose from options including socials in house, fit to perform in the gym, practise, duet playing - or relaxing in the house TV lounge.

Group class workshops

The day begins with a morning group class for all pianists. The sessions are live-streamed for all the online participants.

Teaching session 1

August 14 @ 09:00 - 11:00

The first  session of the day with all members of the faculty working intensely in individual lessons with the participants. Children are encouraged to watch other lessons. Courses include aural, jazz, composition, harpsichord and much more!
