Elementary course class session

Improvisation, composing & Musical Time Travel with Karen Marshall. Developing skills of phrasing, syncopation, swing rhythms, using scales and walking bass lines. Ensemble playing with Karen Marshall. Duets, trios and whole group music workshopping. Intermediate course class session

Each day will end with a session of communal music-making, with duets, trios, one piano four hands, one piano six hands, and more allow all of the students to take part in an ensemble and learn the important skills of balance, communication, rhythmic accuracy and critical listening that are central to ensemble work. Final course concerts

All the young pianists have the opportunity to perform on the final morning, and receive a certificate of participation from their course leader. Recitals will take place in up to four halls. Family and friends will be welcome to come and listen.

Advice auditions

An opportunity to play to head of keyboard at Chetham's Dr Murray McLachlan, or another member of staff at the school and receive written feedback. Parents are welcome to attend the audition.
