Medtner’s Op.54 “Romantic Sketches for the Young” is a rarely performed cycle.
It consists of four short books, each one containing a prelude and a tale (or fairy tale).
Following the grand and majestic two Sonatas Op.53 it is completely different in its style, layout,
means of expression and content.
Written in 1931 this set of pieces is probably one of the most intimate and sincere creations in piano literature of all times.
