Biographical Info

Sam Brook was born in Yorkshire and began playing the piano at an early age. After winning a scholarship from the Bearder education awards, he studied at both the junior and main keyboard department of the Royal Northern College of Music where he studied with Carole Presland. In 2007, he was awarded scholarships from the RNCM and Countess of Munster Musical Trust for postgraduate study at the RNCM where he graduated with distinction in performance.

Sam’s diverse musical interests have lead to performances throughout the UK and abroad. He finds his home city of Manchester a particularly creative environment where he has performed in counterpoint marathons, made collaborations with video jockeys, performed six piano works with acclaimed group Piano Circus and even performed a fugue for typewriters…

Sam works as soloist, recitalist and accompanist; he particularly loves chamber music and enjoys performing with friends whenever he can.
Particular highlights have been appearances at The Bridgewater Hall piano festival, The Buxton fringe festival, Urbis and The Barbirolli room.

In recent years, teaching has become a major commitment. Sam enjoys working with students across the schools at the RNCM as well as in Junior RNCM and Chetham’s school of music. He also runs a small private studio where he enjoys working with students from the early stages through to professional level.

Alongside his life as a musician, Sam is a yogi and has a particular interest in the relationship between yoga and music making. He is currently a trainee teacher in Iyengar method of yoga.
