Course - Piano Teachers' course
In 2018 an exciting new course for piano teachers was established. Over 35 teachers enrolled on the course from all over the world. The varied programme proved thought-provoking and inspirational. The course is now firmly established as an integral part of the summer school.
We are delighted to announce that Dr Nellie Seng will be leading the course in 2026, on part one of the course.
This keyboard pedagogy course offers piano teachers a practical, integrated approach
to effective and healthy teaching. Led by the Course Leader, the programme combines
focused pedagogy sessions with daily lesson observations and selected specialist
classes such as Dalcroze, Alexander Technique, and musical analysis. Core topics
include healthy technique and tension management, engaging approaches to technical
work, performance anxiety across age groups, musicianship at the keyboard, and
effective lesson design. Emphasis is placed on diagnostic listening, age-appropriate
strategies, and immediately transferable teaching tools that can be applied confidently
in the studio.

Just to say that I thoroughly enjoyed the Piano Teachers course (I was on one week only – would have loved to have stayed for a second week but I couldn’t take another week!).
I got so much out of the classes particularly the Improvising, Technique, dancing and Kodaly, as these touched on things that are pertinent to me at the moment. It was wonderful to get the chance to play for the Minuet in Bethan’s dance class as she demonstrated the steps! Helen R
