Course - Piano Teachers' course

In 2018 an exciting new course for piano teachers was established. Over 35 teachers enrolled on the course from all over the world. The varied programme proved thought-provoking and inspirational. The course is now firmly established as an integral part of the summer school.

We are delighted to announce that The Piano Teachers’ Course UK will be leading the course in 2025.

Piano Teaching in Action: Practical Approaches for All Levels

Join the tutors from the internationally acclaimed Piano Teachers’ Course UK (PTC) for an immersive week of piano teaching with live demonstrations and insightful lesson videos. The course aims to invigorate your teaching approach, featuring a carefully selected repertoire list appropriate for students of all ages and skills levels. The PTC Guiding Principle of placing meaningful music-making at the heart of lessons will be a constant theme throughout the week.

The Piano Teachers’ Course is led by International Director, Lucinda Mackworth-Young, and Director, Sally Cathcart, and supported by a team of expert Principal Tutors: Ilga Pitkevica, Beate Toyka, Jill Morton and Kris Worsley. Other specialist guest tutors are also engaged when required, including Graham Fitch, founder of Practising the Piano, Andrew Davidson for Dalcroze, Penelope Roskell, author of The Complete Pianist and Chair of EPTA UK and Richard Michael for jazz piano.

It is possible to attend the course as a resident, non-resident, or as a day participant.

The detailed daily schedule will be published soon.

Just to say that I thoroughly enjoyed the Piano Teachers course (I was on one week only – would have loved to have stayed for a second week but I couldn’t take another week!).

I got so much out of the classes particularly the Improvising, Technique, dancing and Kodaly, as these touched on things that are pertinent to me at the moment. It was wonderful to get the chance to play for the Minuet in Bethan’s dance class as she demonstrated the steps! Helen R
