Following his success in numerous prestigious international and national
competitions and awards – most notably securing Third Prize at the 2nd Manchester
International Concerto Competition in 2009 – South Korean born pianist Yoon Seok (John)
Shin has become a highly sought-after artist. Performing over 50 engagements annually
across Europe, Asia, and the United Kingdom, Yoon has cultivated a dynamic international
career as a solo recitalist, concerto soloist, and chamber musician. His poised, polished and
innovative performances have earned high praise from esteemed critics. Yoon is currently
recognised as a Young Steinway Artist and serves as an official artist for T&B Entertainment
in South Korea.
Yoon has graced many renowned venues, recently including Steinway Hall (UK & Vietnam),
St. John’s Smith Square, the Southbank Centre, St Martin-in-the-Fields, St James’s Church
Piccadilly, Regent Hall, The Reform Club, and the Foundling Museum in London. His
performances have also taken him to National Trust – The Firs, Elgar’s House,
Worcestershire, Lighthouse Poole, Cheltenham Town Hall, the Master Musicians
International Recital Series in Northeast England, Konserthuset – The Nobel Prize Award Hall
in Sweden, the Korean Catholic Concert Hall in Moscow, Russia, as well as Seoul Sejong
Center Chamber Hall and Seoul Arts Center Concert Hall in South Korea.
Yoon made his first major concerto debut in 2017, performing Mozart’s Piano Concerto No.
25 in C major, K.503, with the Corinthian Chamber Orchestra under the baton of Eamonn
Dougan at St James’s Church Piccadilly, London. Since then, he has made regular concerto
appearances with ensembles such as the Croscombe Village Orchestra, Seoul Amore
Philharmonic Orchestra, the New London Orchestra, the Ashtead Park Sinfonia, the
Manchester Camerata and the Thames Philharmonia. He has performed under the direction
of distinguished conductors including Tony Bevan, Hee Tae Seo, Paul Dodds, Stephen
Threlfall, Byung-Yun Yu, and Ronald Corp.
Yoon earned his Artist Diploma (ArtDip) in Performance and Master of Music (MMus) in
Advanced Performance from the Royal College of Music in London, studying under Professor
Andrew Ball. Prior to this, he completed his Bachelor of Music with Honours (BMus Hons) in
Performance at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance (formerly Trinity College of
Music) in London, studying with Professor Philip Fowke. He graduated with First Class
Honours and was awarded the City Livery Club Prize in 2009.
In addition to his distinguished performance career, Yoon is a highly regarded educator,
frequently conducting workshops and masterclasses. His students have consistently
achieved outstanding results in examinations and competitions. He currently holds teaching
positions at Holy Cross Catholic Secondary Girls’ School in New Malden and Nonsuch High
School for Girls in Cheam, United Kingdom. Furthermore, he regularly serves as an assistant
and Faculty member at the Chetham’s International Summer School and Festival for Pianists
in Manchester, UK. Yoon is also an official ballet répétiteur, collaborating with the Royal
Academy of Dance, London, at Thomas’s London Day Preparatory Schools – an institution
formerly attended by Prince George and Princess Charlotte, the children of William, Prince
of Wales.
