NEW Course - Music Technology

An understanding of music technology is becoming increasingly useful in the modern world. Many performers in all areas and genres of music use music technology in some way – ranging from the use of synthesis and sampling techniques to the way recording technology can be used for layering tracks and enhancing sound quality.
The new Music Technology course will be suitable for beginners as well as for those with some previous experience. Participants will look at how to use Apple‘s Logic software, which is the industry standard application, to create and record music. It is fascinating to explore how to arrange and record music, seeing the many ways you can create and edit sounds using software instruments and how you can add creative effects such as delay, chorus and reverberation. Those with little or no previous experience will work mainly in our suite of Apple computers whilst more advanced participants will have the opportunity to use the recording studios to record various combinations of instrumentalists according to whoever is available on the course.

Options for working with Sibelius in the studio will also be possible.

There will be two group sessions with Jeremy Pike the course leader, and two session of 90 minutes in the Technology Suite with Katie Laing, the Studio Assistant.

During the course it may be possible to arrange further studio time depending on demand. Spaces are limited, so please sign up early and indicate your level of experience.

This is an exciting opportunity for anybody wishing to discover more about the potential for using keyboards to create music using computers, to develop skills as a sound engineer or simply to improve music notation skills.

Chetham’s School of Music possesses a dedicated Music Technology suite with 2 well-equipped recording studios, a suite of digital audio workstations using Logic software and a range of hardware and software instruments.
