Biographical Info

We are delighted to welcome Alison for the first time to Chetham’s to teach Dalcroze, Musical Analysis and Aural.

Alison grew up in West Yorkshire and studied for her music degree at St John’s College, Cambridge, followed by an MA in the theory and analysis of music at Durham University and a PGCE in secondary school music at Cambridge University. Whilst working as a cello and piano teacher, Alison experienced Dalcroze workshops where she was struck by the creativity and intuitiveness of this approach to music teaching.  This inspired her to study for the Dalcroze Professional Certificate through evening classes at the RNCM.  More recently, Alison has been working towards the Dalcroze Licence, an advanced qualification in Dalcroze Eurhythmics.

Alison is the junior school music teacher at Ackworth School, Pontefract, where she integrates Dalcroze and Kodály musicianship into the music curriculum.  She also works for the Voices Foundation, coaching primary school teachers in teaching classroom music using Kodály methodology.  Alison teaches Dalcroze Eurhythmics at Yorkshire Young Musicians and is teaching on the 2024 Dalcroze UK Spring and Summer Schools.
