Karen MarshallElementary Piano – Course Leader
Karen is a practising private, peri, first access and classroom music teacher in York with pupils from 5 years to 72. She studied piano pedagogy with the late Christine Brown. Co-author of Collins Music, Get Set! Piano series, and compiler of ABRSM Piano Encore, she has titles in ABRSM Piano Star Series and also is the creator of the Piano Trainer Series with Faber – which includes the Foundation Pianist (with David Blackwell) and The Intermediate Pianist (with Heather Hammond – Best Printed Resource 2018 in the Music Teacher Awards for Excellence). Karen is regular contributor to Music Teacher Magazine, Pianodao blog and has also written a text book ‘How to teach Instrumental and singing lessons – 100 ideas’ with Penny Stirling, published by Collins Music. Her writing is steeped in her ongoing music teaching practice. Specialising in multi-sensory music teaching, Karen speaks country wide including sessions for ABRSM, EPTA, The MU and many Music Hubs. She also is one of the tutors for the BDA Music and Dyslexia qualification. She runs a school choir and orchestra regularly supports community music voluntarily along side working on the EPTA UK Management Committee. Karen is Kodály trained (via the British Kodály Academy), a mother of three who is passionate about bringing the joy of music to all her students. Her first career was in Public Relations and marketing where she also delivered management training.
