Les Chisnall is firmly established as one of the most influential and highly regarded performer-teachers in the UK. He teaches at the Music place and Burnley Jazz summer schools and gives workshops for the National Youth Jazz collective as well as master-classes on improvisation for colleges and universities around the country.
As a respected performer, he has worked with some of the worlds finest jazz musicians including, Kenny Wheeler, John Surman, John Taylor and Mike Walker to name a few.
He has toured the U.S and Europe and has made many recordings, the guardian described his last album ‘ Another place ‘ as a ‘Classic of chamber jazz.
Many of his students have gone on to have professional careers. Les co-authored a book on improvisation with Christopher Norton for Boosey & Hawkes and is currently writing a book on jazz improvisation. Les is on the staff at the Leeds College of Music, Chetham’s School of Music and Manchester University.
